Shopify's Credit Card Processing Fees - PAID by Gem Chocolates
For full disclosure, we have received many customer inquiries about the fees paid by retailers to those companies who process our credit card transactions.
As many of the public know, today (October 6, 2022) begins the opportunity for Canadian retailers to pass on the credit card processing fees charged by the processors. Our site is operated by Shopify (which we pay monthly fees to host). Shopify currently charges Gem Chocolates these credit card processing fees:
Canadian customers: 2.9% + $0.30
International customers: 3.5% + $0.30
We do not accept American Express as the fees are 3.5% + $0.30.
Additionally Shopify only remits the sales proceeds three business days after the transaction - unlike Canadian banks who remit the funds on the next business day.
As inflation continues to increase operating costs, we will continue to assess if these fees charged by Shopify should be passed onto the customer in-lieu of raising our products costs.
